Healthy School

This school is part of the Council’s Healthy School Scheme and has received the highest award, namely the National Quality Award.

The Gwynedd Healthy School Scheme is managed in partnership with the National Public Health Service of Wales, Gwynedd Council and the Local Health Board.

The scheme enables schools to make a positive contribution towards the health and well-being of their pupils, teachers and wider community by developing an environment that promotes health.

Healthy Schools introduces aspects of health and well-being through:

  • the National Curriculum
  • the Hidden Curriculum and the school ethos
  • developing existing link

Physical Education ad Sports at Ysgol Nefyn

The school’s pupils enjoy a wide range of Physical Education experiences.  Opportunities are provided that will enable them to plan, participate in, and evaluate a variety of activities aimed towards their age-group and needs.  As well as improving our children’s physical skills, health and fitness, we believe that developing an appreciation of fair play and honest competition is vitally important.  We will encourage everyone linked to the school to adopt a lifelong commitment to a healthy, active and pleasing way of life.

Pupils are expected to wear shorts and a T-shirt with trainers for lessons, to bring them to school on Monday and to take them home at the end of each week. If a child wishes to be excused from PE lessons on medical grounds, a note must be obtained from his/her parent/guardian.

Swimming Lessons

The school arranges swimming lessons for all pupils, for a period of a term at a time, on average.
Each child will require swimwear and a towel on the day.
We kindly ask parents to contribute £3 towards the costs of conveying children to the swimming pool.

The school is involved in the Eco Schools scheme which promotes looking afterthe local and wider global environment. The aim of the scheme is to teach this to the children as a sustainable 'way of life' for the future.  The Eco Council leads on the scheme within the school.
