Attendance and Absence
The school has a duty to ensure that the pupils attend regularly. In accordance with Welsh Government regulations, all schools must differentiate between authorised absence (illness, a visit to the doctor, etc.) and unauthorised absence. You are asked to inform the school of each absence by note, phone-call or e-mail. For safety reasons, the school will call the home on the first day of absence if no message is received.
Authorised Absence
This includes illness or a medical appointment. Up to ten days of holidays can be requested during one academic year. The Headteacher considers these requests individually. We strongly urge parents not to take their children out of school during the academic year as continuity is important to ensure effective learning.
Unauthorised Absence
Any unexplained absences are categorised as being unauthorised. Records of attendance are maintained and monitored by the Local Education Authority.
Education Welfare Officers have the authority to visit the homes of any parents whose children’s attendance figures are of concern to the school and LEA.
