Ysgol Nefyn Policies

General Objectives

Gwynedd Education Authority operates a policy of bilingualism throughout all Gwynedd schools.  The objective is to develop the ability of pupils and students within the county to be confidently bilingual so as to enable them to become full members of the bilingual society of which they are a part. All of the county’s education establishments should reflect and reinforce the language policy in their administration, social life and pastoral arrangements, as well as in their academic provision.

Full time in September following their fourth birthday and into the Nursery Class in the mornings in September following their third birthday.

The school also admits pupils from Ysgol Babanod Morfa Nefyn in Year 4. We ensure that a close link is maintained with Ysgol Morfa Nefyn so as to make the transition from one school to another a natural and smooth experience.

Ysgol Nefyn’s Governing Body acknowledges the importance of adopting a drugs policy so as to protect everyone in the school community from problems in our society arising from the misuse of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

In accordance with the policy of Gwynedd Education Authority, Ysgol Gynradd Nefyn regards bullying to be a matter of concern that could have a direct impact on the school’s entire ethos and atmosphere.

The school does not tolerate any form of bullying and firm measures are taken in an attempt to ensure that no child in our care suffers the effects of bullying.

As a school, we declare and acknowledge the following:

  • That bullying exists in the world and may find expression in several guises, e.g. physical, verbal, emotional.
  • That any instances of bullying should be dealt with as soon as possible.
  • That we have specific procedures to follow.
  • That there is a ‘victim’ and ‘bully’ in each case. That both sides of the story should be heard.

AIM

Ysgol Nefyn’s aims and objectives are to present each pupil with a complete education and to prepare and promote his/her development so as to become a balanced individual with an open mind.

  • We consider every individual to be equal and we show respect to each according to his/her ability, attainment and particular talent.
  • Discrimination on the basis of gender, race, culture, colour, class, language, physical disability or educational ability is totally unacceptable.
  • There is an atmosphere where due respect is shown towards the backgrounds and experiences of all pupils and staff at the school

STATEMENT

We acknowledge that our children grow up in a broad society characterised by differences, not only in race but also in religion, dress, food and language that reflect these modern changes.

We aim, therefore, to reflect these differences and enhance the education of all pupils so as to enable them to understand and appreciate the multicultural nature of various societies.

The Governing Body, in partnership with Gwynedd Council, intends to ensure good practices that will promote equal opportunity at the school.

The school has a policy that ensures that we provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and systems of work for all pupils and staff (teaching and ancillary).  We also provide information and training where possible or necessary, and supervision for this purpose. A copy of the school's Health and Safety policy can be obtained from the office.  Risk assessments are regularly completed to ensure that the building, site and destinations for visits are safe for children, staff and visitors.  For safety, the school has a CCTV system that covers the main entrances and playgrounds.
